NYCFC Defeats San Jose

After what to seem to be a very long international break, the MLS returned to action with NYCFC facing off against the San Jose Earthquakes in the Bronx. City got off to a rough start with a back pass by Andrea Pirlo that keeper Sean Johnson had a bit of trouble with. Marcos Urena took the ball after it landed and went past Johnson to put the Quakes up by 1.

It didn’t take long for David Villa and company to respond after an incredible touch by Villa fed young star Jack Harrison in the box for a nice left footed shot to tie up the game. City didn’t stop there; they kept on pressuring the San Jose defense with multiple crosses and shots on goal.

City finished with seven corner kicks on the afternoon with nine shots with three of them being on target. In the 63rd minute Thomas McNamara entered for Andrea Pirlo and boy was it a fantastic sub by Patrick Vieira because in the 67th minute McNamara ran down the field to finish inside the box to put NYCFC ahead and they never looked back from then.

Victor Bernandez received a red card in the 80th minute for the Earthquakes, which ultimately crippled the visiting team for the rest of the match.

At the final whistle the score finished 2-1 with NYCFC taking home a win for the second time this season but it was also the third straight home game this season without a loss. The boys in blue are set to face off next week against DC United in an away fixture at 2 PM on April 8th.
