For those of you here on the east coast of America, waking up at 6:30 AM on a Saturday morning can be a tall task. But let me tell you this, it was worth every second. The early start was due to appealing the Asian markets due to the fact that the Chinese now owns both Milan clubs. Milan was recently purchased earlier this week and played their first game post Silvio Berlusconi era.
Early on Milan had three chances in front of Inter’s goal but they struggled to finish like they did throughout the whole game. After that Inter really began to take control of the game where in the 36th minute Antonio Candreva went one on one with Mattia De Scigilio where he had a magical touch past the Fullback and right over Gianluigi Donnarumma’s head for a 1-0 lead. That made 2 goals in 2 derbies for the former Lazio man. Right before the end of the half Inter kept pressing the rossoneri and Inter captain Mauro Icardi scored his 21st goal of the season after somehow separating himself from the Milan defense for a simple tap in.
Like many times this past season Milan has been resilient and keeping their composure despite playing so poorly. Vincenzo Montella made the decision to substitute on young star Manuel Locatelli and high energy forward Gianluca Lapadula. After pressing up with a high line Milan finally had a breakthrough when Alessio Romagnoli scored from a cross inside the box to give his side life in the 83rd minute. With just minutes left in stoppage time Inter wasted some time that granted Milan more time to create chances. After winning a cross Suso sent in a ball that found Cristian Zapata’s head and after Goal Line Technology review it was confirmed a game-tying goal ending a thrilling match.
After the Draw Milan remains two points clear of Inter as they continue their Europa League chase through this final stretch of the season. As for Inter, there will be a lot of evaluating to do after another disappointing result.
