Insigne Contract Renewal

Napoli will announce Insigne’s contract renewal on Saturday Calciomercato.com reports that Napoli has announced it will have a press conference Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. (Italian time) where club president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Lorenzo Insigne will announce the winger’s contract renewal.

Insigne’s renewal will earn him a 4.5 million euros, but bonuses will bump up his total earnings to 5 million. The 25-year-old’s new deal will make him the highest paid player on the team. It expires in 2022 an also doesn’t have a release clause.

Napoli will continue to fully manage Insigne’s image rights, which is common under Aurelio De Laurentiis. There was much made by fans about the hometown boy’s contract situation, so the Stadio San Paolo faithful should feel relieved about the extension. The Frattamaggiore-born player is still young and could be the Partenopei’s future captain, especially having worn the armband a few times already. Without Insigne, it would be hard to imagine Napoli reaching its current level of success this season. The forward has scored 16 goals in all competitions and recorded seven assists.

Insigne draws attention from opposing teams as he tears up the left-side of the field. Passing is one of the player’s strengths, holding an 86.1 percent pass-success rate in the Serie A, which is impressive for an attacking player. The young star has the ability to set up his teammates for goals with key passes and crosses as fans have seen in his one-two connection with right-winger Jose Callejon as he cuts into the box at the far-post. With 16 goals, Insigne’s goal-scoring threat is obvious. The Italian international can cut inside to take close range shots, or long, curling shots that beat the opposing goalkeeper.

Lately, Insigne’s defensive contribution has also been impressive as he runs back down the left side. He doesn’t dive into tackles, but the effort to track back and add another defensive body has been evident. Napoli will be at ease knowing Insigne will remain in the club’s signature azzurro, and so will the club’s supporters that look forward to chanting his name.
